We All Need Friends
Therapy for children struggling to make friends
Making friends isn’t easy for some children. They may struggle with starting a conversation, being a good listener or blurting out the wrong thing. Therapy can help them form better connections and feel more confident in their social skills.
Not getting invited to parties or playdates.
Seeing photos of friends together.
Playing alone at the park.
Struggling to join a conversation appropriately.
Parents can feel so powerless in these situations. We witness the exclusion and loneliness, but don’t know how to help. Interpersonal dynamics can be very complicated, even for adults, but our therapists can get a better understanding of your child and help.
Every child is different
Some children are more introverted and prefer spending their down time reading or drawing by themselves. Other times they just need a little help rehearsing social skills. Therapy can also uncover any factors like anxiety, depression, or challenges with impulse control. Whatever the issue, our child therapists can help them feel accepted and connected. It really only takes one or two good friends to boost a child’s self-esteem, provide moral support and enrich their life.
Find their voice
Therapy can give your child strategies and tools that will serve them throughout life. We will help them confront fears, acknowledge struggles and discover strengths. There are also foundational skills that we can practice with them in a comfortable, accepting environment.
All children and teens deserve the happiness and connection that comes with having a good friend. We are passionate about helping to make that happen.
Onsite & Online Therapy
Psychotherapy Associates of Chicago provides onsite & HIPAA-compliant teletherapy sessions. Although in-person sessions are generally preferable, an online therapist can be a great option when this is not possible. Contact us for more information.
